Howdy, fellow Draconiacs!  RazorFox here.

So to lay to rest two weeks of speculation, we now know who Lady Red had in mind as her auxiliary troops.  Will Saph, Eone, and Meta provide the advantage the Palace Guard needs to capture Kilani and overcome her army of alleged allies?  Or will the Earth Dragons even comply with their draft orders?  Stay tuned…

Those of you looking for a soundtrack for this page can pull up “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

I must admit, I was rather amused and impressed at all the speculation that Lady Red’s declared intent has spawned.  I thought I had pretty clearly shown who Lady Red would be calling upon way back on page 257 [link], but for the last two weeks, through the comment board below, on the Katbox forums, and elsewhere, you all have been putting forth well-reasoned ideas for who else Lady Red may have had in mind, including valid cases for Lightning Dragons and Water Dragons.  A few of you did correctly guess Earth Dragons, though, and I tip my cap to you, my fellow Draconiacs.  But for those of you who guessed otherwise, you really got me thinking.  We’ll see what it leads to.

Speaking of sparking discussion, be sure to Like the new Draconia Chronicles Facebook page!  Discuss the comic with your fellow Draconiacs, and get updates and announcements right in your news feed.  Check it out by clicking here [link].

And that’s really it to report this week.  Back to work on next week’s page.  Take care, my fellow Draconiacs, and thanks for reading!

“You’re in the army now, you’re not behind the plow! You’ll never get rich, you Earth Dragon bitch, you’re in the army now!”

Let me whip out my kazoo to provide accompaniment. ^__^

Backs you up on drum just case I have em. Lol

I got the bugles too! (E^3^)

I’m experimenting with different body types. I’m not necessarily looking to make Earth Dragons altogether curvier, but I decided to give Saph a slightly wider set of hips than the other two, and I’m rather pleased with how that looks on her. And yes, curves are quite enjoyable. ^__^

Well it does make sense considering Lady Red did try to call on them for help like last time. Though can they as yet be used in an offensive way is yet to be seen.

Well looks like they did think about that when the had themselves reinstated. She’s probably thinking Son of a Dritch right now lol. Then theres the other one like what….? While friend like figures.

I guess this is where the queen could say payback is a dritch.

The Palace is just cashing the check Eone’s mouth wrote. I love the facial expressions in panel 4. Saph’s shock, Eone’s incredulousness, and Meta’s eyebrow which does all her talking in this shot.

I’d hazard that -maybe- this would have gone over a little better if Lady Red had simply shown up a bit more personably and simply presented her request in a more polite fashion, though. Maybe it still would have met frustration, but as it is, she just sent guards ahead that interrupted an important task and threatened them with imprisonment (and don’t forget to take notice of the threat involved, as those guards are making no act of hiding their flaming hands!). Eone may have opened up this potential, but that doesn’t mean Red’s not being a dritch about how she’s cashing the check.

Last time Red went there and asked nicely she got a no and walled off. She wasn’t about to let that happen again.

Not saying she shouldn’t bring along the laws and press the matter, but there’s the difference between pressing a point and showing force. : Showing up with the law and a bit of quiet backup off her shoulder would have done the job nicely. Sending GUARDS beforehand to threaten is purely threatening and aggressive, and a quick way to put someone in a foul mood, on top of which she’s been nothing but smarmy about it. It’s pretty poisonous, going forward, as a working unit. It’s one thing to have authority over someone, quite another to wave it in their face. And soldiers that don’t respect their XO often prove to not work so well with them… respect not being something you can force, after all. I just don’t think this behavior is going to be beneficial to her in the long run. One way says, ‘look, you don’t like it, but I need to conscript you, and it’s the law.’ The other says ‘We don’t like each other, but I have power over you and there’s nothing you can do about it, so nyeaaaah.’ Methinks the Lady enjoys throwing her weight around a great deal. D: In my experience that doesn’t build good working relationships, but we’ll see whether or not this ultimately comes back to bite her on her scaly tush.

(random note: This actually was meant to be posted as Maximum Carnage originally, but apparently I was tired at the time. Or struck stupid. o.O Although an acceptable handle, just not the one I used in my other post. I’ll use it again here for sanity’s sake.)

Well, I guess her negotiations with the queen earlier kind of backfired big time! XD
Also! YES! The two other Earth Dragons from the calendars!

Yay, you remembered them! I try not to put anyone in the calendars that I don’t plan on actually using in the comic. Saph (on Eone’s left) and Meta have been pinned as Eone’s running buddies for some time now. I just finally figured out a good time to add them in. Your patience has paid off. ^__^

LOL Saph!

XD

I wonder if the tigers’ll kinda gawk at the fact there are even Earth
dragons, since they were so rarely seen outside the city before. The three gals might even try to make nice before a fight breaks out, if they meet up with Kess and her band first. I seriously doubt Kilani will even put up a struggle. If I were her I wouldn’t pass up a chance to directly speak with the Queen, so long as it put no one else but me in harm’s way.

I think the queen is just trying to kill off the “Useless earth dragons” considering that most, if not all, earth dragons lack combat experience. The fact that one of them stole her man is reason enough for me to come to this conclusion. It’s her typical M.O as the story’s main alpha bitch.

Well, it sounds like this move is entirely driven by Lady Red, backed up by her fellow royal court member Lady Schaddig. The Queen has no direct say in this at the moment as she’s occupied elsewhere. Lady Red might have more noble motives in mind, though. Or she could be using them as meat shields, as so many others have speculated.

Hmmm, I think the earth dragons have no choice this time, they are legally bound. However I really can’t accept Red’s decision to draft dragons who are not warriors (correct me if I’m mistaken) to go on a mission against experience tigers. Not only would this be a suicide mission for the earth dragons but Red will be putting her own warriors in danger by having “green” members with them. Will they panic in a fight? Will they fail to sync up with the more experienced fire dragons turning things into an uncoordinated mess? Will the earth dragons abandon the rest at the first sign of trouble out of spite? This just seems like nightmare waiting to happen.

Green recruits make for excellent meat shields…and support units. Lady Red doesn’t really come across as a gal who uses meat shields too often. Instead she appears to actually have a legitimate concern for her troops.

All the more reason to trust her… right? o_O

I think a better question is -which- troops she has concern for. She certainly seems to have concern for her fire dragons, but will that same mantra extend to the earth dragons if the guano hits the geyser? That remains to be seen. Either way, I’m not a particular fan of her political style. We’ll see what happens.

Is it just me or…are the Earth dragons…shedding? I’m stupid lol..but that’s what it looks like to me X3

Ive said it before so I’ll say it again. If the Earth dragons didn’t want to fight then they shouldn’t have asked for the chance. Red said it herself that they specifically asked(Or rather demanded the queen over a barrel) the queen to reinstate the earth dragons as eligible. They asked for it, they wanted to fight so now they fight. And no backing out this time!
I mean really, you got the queen over a barrel like that you could have asked for something that wouldn’t bite you latter. If she didn’t want to fight then she should have asked for something, anything else.

Hmmm, Now that Ive looked back on page 257 I think I see what Red is going to do. The only real question now is, what kind of house is Red going to have Eone and her team build?

Ah cripes, yknow, Lady red can be a right nuisance sometimes -.-;

Instead of going with willing dragons to help on the mission that would be a greater help and more happy to oblige, she goes the spiteful route and enlists this trio, no wonder things are falling apart so much…

Is something happening to the girls scales? I wonder if the earth dragons are shedding their skin.

Good eye! They are, indeed, shedding their scales. They’ll soon get to enjoy the feeling of each other’s smooth new skin. ^o^

It’s because I think either due to the lava or they used their own for their cement in rebuilding the wall. (Sorry I haven’t commented much this week, I’ve been playing Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon Like crazy trying to get all Scarescraper ghosts.)

Nice page as always but a block of volacno or a block of volcano? IF its how they spell that in this story im totally fine with it. If not well, its not a major spelling error.

Eek! Thanks so much for catching that. I was kinda tired when I did the lettering. I’m lucky there weren’t MORE spelling errors. Ees feext nao. ^__^

Glad to help :D, have a nice day.

so they get fully recognized as dragons reliable for combat, and then they get drafted? well that’s a fine how-do-ya-do. to be honest, it’s kinda obvious that with that kind of recognition that they need to handle the responsibilities that come with it. wish they could’ve explained that law in layman’s terms, though.

Earth dragons are molting. I don’t even like getting sunburn, that must be unpleasant.

They seem to be handling it well. Maybe they’re used to it. ^__^

Well, they may just have more pressing matters on their mind right now.

So eone is going to boot camp to train as a warrior I hope they do well and show the queen
what there made of I just like seeing the queen getting pissed off its funny

I have the feeling that the tigers are “acting” a bit stupid, or more likely the dragons have better thinkers in their ranks. But maybe it´s just a wrong impression. It would be nice to see that tigers have advanced tactics and are equally in thinking strategically ahead. Perhaps Riah is capable for something like that, also an eye patch gives the impression of being a war veteran. This role would suit her perfectly.

Well it is going to be 3d like age of empires not like the age of kings but the first one if you ever played it

…Hmm…
At some point there’s going to be a scene about “sensitive scales,” isn’t there?

I’m sure they’d have to cross that bridge at some point. ~__^

The real question is, will there be action music, or pr0n music to go along with that sequence…

Wait wait wait…why is Lady Red drafting *these* Earth Dragons for military service? Didn’t Eone tell her that most Earthers (including her) don’t do the whole “violence and bloodshed” thing, but a few *did*? Why not get those Earth Dragons who wouldn’t have a problem fighting tigers (it stands to reason Eone would know who, being the race’s de facto representative), instead of those with known pacifist tendencies? O_o
